One person missing from the Maltings Surgery this year is Dr Paula Livesey, who left the practice in February to accompany her husband who had a new job in the United States. She is keeping in touch with us and is keen to let everyone know how she is getting on:
“We arrived in New Jersey in the middle of winter and I quickly had to adjust to subzero temperatures as well as to driving on the right hand side of the road, and shopping in American supermarkets - none of which was easy!
After staying in a hotel for three months we finally moved into our new home in Ridgewood, New Jersey, in May. It was lovely to have a kitchen again and a garden for Brady to play in.
In mid June we headed to Bethany Beach, Delaware, for a relaxing vacation with friends. This didn’t go entirely according to plan, though, as I went into labour five weeks early and had to call 911 for assistance. I was very embarrassed when a fire engine, police car and ambulance all arrived together with sirens wailing and lights flashing. I just made it to the local hospital in time and Lewis William O’Connor was born an hour later weighing 6 lbs 2oz. He is very well, despite his exciting arrival, and Brady is particularly enjoying hugging and kissing him at every opportunity.
We are gradually adjusting to our new life and I am really enjoying being a full-time mum. I think of the Maltings frequently, and it has been lovely to hear from staff and patients alike - my best wishes to everyone associated with the practice.”
We all wish Paula and her family continued success and look forward to seeing them on their next visit home to England.
