Dementia

We have over 100 patients at the Maltings diagnosed with dementia. We understand that both living with dementia & caring for someone with dementia can be difficult and challenging. We have recently done our best to ensure the Maltings Surgery is a ‘Dementia Friendly Practice’. Most of our receptionists have had specific training and are ‘Dementia Friends’ so are well equipped to make the experience of someone visiting the surgery as pleasant as possible.
We can organise downstairs appointments, longer appointments, and meet specific requests as needed. All our patients with dementia have alerts on their notes to improve awareness in order to allow more time and make reasonable adjustments.

In addition we support all carers including those caring for someone with dementia by adding them to our Carers Register (please contact Mario Merlo our Carers Champion for more details). Carers are offered flexible appointments, a carers annual health check and the flu vaccination.

Annie Birkin is our Dementia Champion – please ask for more information if needed.
